ADVANCED ADVENTURER SSI

Advanced Open Water Diver - Introduction:

Advanced Open Water Diver Course - what is it?

This course is a training program for divers who want to expand their skills and explore new types of diving. During the course, you will perform five themed dives (“adventure dives”) that give you insight into different specialties.

Who is it intended for?

For anyone who:

  • Has completed the OWD course,

  • wants to improve his diving skills,

  • plans more challenging diving expeditions,

  • is considering further development, such as a Rescue Diver course.

Requisites:

You must have an OWD (Open Water Diver) certificate or its equivalent from another federation.

Minimum age 12 (there are restrictions on diving depth for younger ones).

Why it it worth to do an Advanced Adventurer OWD course?

New skills and experiences – You learn about new environments, such as wrecks, deeper underwater life and the underwater world at night.

Access to deeper dives – You gain authorization to dive up to 30 meters.

Preparation for the next stages of training – This is a bridge to the next courses – Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Instructor.

SSI ADVANCED ADVENTURER is equivalent to the Advanced Open Water Diver course of other diving federations, including PADI.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

In order to be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver in the SSI organization, one must complete any 4 full diving specialties and have logged 24 dives.

AOWD certification is discretionary and completely free of charge. In the SSI application, your Advanced Adventurer certification will automatically be upgraded to Advanced Open Water Diver once you have achieved the above requirements. This does not change the fact that completion of the Advanced Adventurer course in the SSI organization entitles you to dive deeper, up to 30m around the world, of course, if you did the DEEP DIVER specialization during the course.

The philosophy of the advanced course in the SSI federation is very clever. Imagine a combined Open Water Diver course along with the advanced course which takes us a total of 5 days. We receive certificates authorizing us to dive deeper, but could we call ourselves advanced divers considering only the certificate. Basically, we will only gain experience by diving and extending the knowledge gained during the specialties done in the advanced course to full specialty courses. That’s why SSI calls its advanced course ADVANCED ADVENTURER, and after you’ve done 24 dives in your life and supplemented that with 4 specializations, it awards the title ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER in the system.

To summarize:

If you want to do the Advanced Open Water Diver course in the SSI federation, it will be called ADVANCED ADVENTURER and will be programmatically equivalent to the Advanced course in the PADI and other federations.
